The House System provides opportunities for students to develop all aspects of their growth and learning: personality, morality, creativity, knowledge and skills.... Participation in House activities contributes to excellence in academic, social, sporting and cultural fields.
The school house system at DAWN School, helps to teach children the value of teamwork and good behavior. We place a high value on learning about working as a team and the benefits of good behavior, so the School House System is an important part of student life.
Your child will join one of the four school houses. The houses are named after famous civilizations that have explored the globe.
The houses are:
• ROMANS
• ARYANS
• ARABS
• GREEKS
Each student is placed in a house, with siblings in the same house. Older students are given the responsibility to serve as House Captains, with one boy House Captain and one girl House Captain
for each house.
Throughout the year, students receive points which contribute to the house competitions. Your child will receive house points as rewards for things such as good behavior, good work, and good attitude. You can also win extra points for your house through house events:
• Sports Day
• Spelling Bees
• Quizzes
• Parent and Child Competitions
• Creative challenges - such as our “build a world landmark” competition
• Public speaking
• Poetry writing
• Art and design competitions
• Science Fair
Every week, we have a school-wide assembly where we count the individual house points and announce the winning house for the week. Then, at the end of the year, all points are counted and the winning house for the year is announced and awards are distributed. There is a wonderful sense of camaraderie generated throughout the school with the house system.
